Nigeria’s Flying Eagles have secured qualification to the Round of 16 at the ongoing FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile, following a 1–1 draw with Colombia in their final group match played early Monday morning.

The South Americans took the lead in the 51st minute through Kener González, who finished off a quick counterattack to put Colombia ahead.

Nigeria fought back late in the game, and their persistence paid off in the 86th minute when Captain Daniel Bameyi converted a penalty following a handball inside the Colombian box.

The draw was enough to see Nigeria advance to the knockout stage, finishing with four points from three group matches. Colombia topped the group.

The result continues Nigeria’s strong record at the tournament, as the two-time runners-up aim to reach the final for the first time since 2005. The Flying Eagles will face Argentina in the Round of 16.
