The Lagos State Electricity Regulatory Commission (LASERC) has officially licensed two new electricity distribution companies — Excel Distribution Company Limited and IE Energy Lagos Limited to take over power distribution across Lagos State.

The new licences, which replace those of Eko Electricity Distribution Company (Eko Disco) and Ikeja Electric, were presented on October 2, 2025, at a ceremony held at Radisson Blu, Ikeja.
The event was led by Engr. Abimbola Odubiyi, Chairman of LASERC, alongside the Commission’s Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Fouad Animashaun.

With this development, Eko Disco and Ikeja Electric have ceased to exist as recognised electricity distributors within Lagos State. The new licensees; Excel Distribution Company Ltd and IE Energy Lagos Ltd will now be responsible for electricity distribution and customer service across the state.

Describing the move as “a defining moment in Lagos’ journey towards a reliable and sustainable electricity market,” Engr. Odubiyi said the transition represents a key step in Lagos’ drive toward energy independence, private sector innovation, and improved service delivery to its more than 20 million residents.
