Nigerian female disc jockey, philanthropist, and music sensation DJ Cuppy makes history to become the first Nigerian to host an opening session at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

This historic moment took place on September 20, 2024, during the Youth Action Day at the 2024 UNGA Summit of the Future.

At the event, the Yoruba born DJ moderated the opening session, which was attended by prominent figures such as H.E. José Maria Neves, President of Cabo Verde, and Felipe Paullier, Assistant Secretary General for Youth Affairs.

Notably, her session was the largest gathering of youth in the United Nations Headquarters ever.

During the session, Cuppy hinted at future ambitions, suggesting she might become Nigeria’s first female President.

UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina J. Mohammed responded with encouragement, saying, “You told me you wanted to be Nigeria’s first female president, and what did I say? After me.”

DJ Cuppy’s influence and charisma shone through as she got the entire Assembly chanting together during her keynote session, electrifying the room and bringing a fresh, youthful energy to the proceedings.

She later closed the event with a powerful musical performance that left a lasting impression.

This achievement is not surprising, given DJ Cuppy’s track record of advocacy for advancing youth opportunities and her consistent use of her voice and platform to inspire millions.

Her foundation, the Cuppy Foundation, has also made significant contributions to education, empowerment, and mobilization of young people.

As a renowned DJ, Cuppy has performed at various high-profile events, including the MTV Africa Music Awards and the Financial Times Business of Luxury Summit. She has also been featured on the cover of Forbes Woman Africa and has been named one of Forbes Africa’s 30 Under 30.
