A growing number of Yoruba conservatives have expressed strong opposition to Beulah Adeoye’s candidacy for Oyo State Governor.

The backlash stems from Adeoye’s marriage to an Igbo woman, Ifeoma, and his decision to give his children Igbo names, Anayo and Ananya.

Critics argue that Adeoye’s actions demonstrate a lack of pride in his Yoruba heritage and may indicate divided loyalty. “When your children’s names are Anayo and Ananya, your wife is Ifeoma, and you are Beulah, then you say you are Yoruba, I have my doubt,” stated a concerned citizen online.

β€œAt least you are not proud to be a Yoruba, that apart, Yoruba land does not want divided loyalty in our politics anymore if you want our vote”

This sentiment is echoed by other Yoruba conservatives, who insist that Adeoye’s cultural identity is at odds with his desire to lead Oyo State.

“Anyone with children who goes by the name Andela, Anaya or Anayo can’t rule any Yoruba state,” commented by seunmsg on Nairaland. “My advice, don’t waste your money”

Adeoye’s interest has raised a heated debate about cultural identity, loyalty, and leadership in Oyo state.

As the election approaches, it remains to be seen whether Adeoye can overcome the opposition and win the support of Yoruba voters.
