After 23 years of waiting, former workers of the defunct Nigeria Airways Limited are beginning to receive retirement benefits owed to them by the Federal Government.
The development follows the commencement of payment of outstanding retirement benefits to former employees of the airline, which was liquidated in April 2003.
The Federal Government has also released funds for the full payment of the Consolidated Academic Tools Allowance (CATA) to eligible academic staff in federal universities, polytechnics and colleges of education.
The allowance covers the period from January to August 2026, providing support to academic staff across federal tertiary institutions.
The developments form part of efforts by the Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration to address inherited financial obligations and settle outstanding commitments to workers and other stakeholders.
The payment to former Nigeria Airways workers brings attention to an obligation that had remained unresolved for more than two decades, while the release of the CATA funds is expected to provide financial support to eligible academic staff and strengthen conditions within federal tertiary institutions.
The administration said its actions reflect its commitment to addressing longstanding issues and ensuring that obligations to workers are met.
