Key Events to Watch Out For

Green Jobs for Youths

On September 20, 2024, UNEP will co-host a high-level side event during the Summit of the Future, titled “Empowering Youth for Sustainable Futures: Intergenerational Responsibility and Skills for a Just Transition.”

This event aims to discuss the critical role of green jobs, education, and intergenerational responsibility in achieving a sustainable and equitable future. New commitments to the Green Jobs for Youth Pact will be featured, and systemic changes needed to equip the next generation with the skills to lead in a low-carbon, circular economy will be explored.

Partnership for a Lead-Free Future

On September 23, 2024, UNEP will join forces with UNICEF, USAID, and public and private partners to launch the Partnership for a Lead-Free Future.

This initiative aims to address the problem of lead poisoning in children, particularly in low- and middle-income countries. The event will feature prominent leaders, including Heads of State and government, private sector, and UN leaders.

Financing for Sustainable Cooling

UNEP and IFC will also launch a joint report, “Cooler Finance: Mobilizing Investment for the Developing World’s Sustainable Cooling Needs,” at the Energy Now – SDG7 Action Forum 2024.

This report highlights private investment opportunities in sustainable cooling technologies and emphasizes the need for increased adoption of passive cooling strategies.

The Energy Now – SDG7 Action Forum 2024 will take place from September 25-27, 2024, on the margins of the UN General Assembly’s high-level week. This event will bring together leaders and experts from governments, business, and civil society to drive momentum and mobilize action towards achieving Sustainable Development Goal 7 (affordable and clean energy)
