Lagos police arrest two women for selling newborn twins

Two women, Ujunwa Una and Chinelo Igbechionwu, were arrested by Lagos State Police Command operatives for conspiracy and child sales.

According to the state police command, The suspects were caught by patrol officers from Ojodu Division at Berger bus-stop, a key entry point into Lagos State, after a Good Samaritan tipped them off.

β€œThe suspects were found traveling from Abia State with two six-day-old newborn baby girls” statement read

Investigations revealed they were en route to deliver the babies to a nurse in Lagos State, as arranged by the babies’ mother.

The suspects confessed to the crime, admitting they were paid ₦150,000 for transporting the babies.

They claimed the mother sold the babies due to her inability to provide proper care.

The case was transferred to the Gender Unit, and the newborns were placed in a motherless babies home for care and medical evaluation.

The suspects were arraigned on September 19, 2024, while investigations continue to apprehend other conspirators
