President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced a lavish reward package for Nigeria’s national women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, following their historic victory at the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket Championship.

In recognition of their exceptional performance, the President gifted the team a cash prize of $100,000, flats in a prime location, and national honours — conferring the Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) on each team member.

President Tinubu, who hosted the team at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, commended their resilience, discipline, and patriotism, noting that they had made the country proud by winning the continental title for the fourth consecutive time.

“You have not only won a trophy, you have won the hearts of millions of Nigerians. Your victory is a strong message that our women can excel at the highest levels. As a token of our appreciation, the federal government is giving each of you $10,000, a flat, and the OON award,” Tinubu said.

The President also directed the Ministry of Sports Development to ensure continuous support for female athletes and grassroots sports development.

D’Tigress defeated Senegal in a thrilling final to claim the title, cementing their dominance in African women’s basketball and securing a spot in the 2026 FIBA World Cup qualifiers.
