The House of Representatives’ joint committees on Defence, Army, Navy, and Air Force have urged the newly appointed service chiefs to focus on restoring peace and stability across Nigeria, stressing that citizens are eager to see tangible results.

Speaking on Wednesday in Abuja during the screening of the nominees, Babajimi Benson, chairman of the House Committee on Defence, said the new military leadership must demonstrate competence, discipline, and renewed strategy in tackling insecurity nationwide.

Those screened included Maj.-Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, Chief of Defence Staff; Maj.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, Chief of Army Staff; AVM Sunday Kelvin Aneke, Chief of Air Staff; and Rear Admiral Idi Abbas, Chief of Naval Staff — all recently appointed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Benson emphasized that Nigerians have endured years of insecurity and now expect visible progress in areas such as counterterrorism, protection of lives and property, and the safety of critical infrastructure.

He charged the service chiefs to collaborate closely with one another and with the intelligence community to achieve lasting national security.
