After four days of industrial action that disrupted healthcare services across the country, the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM) has officially called off its strike.

The decision followed a series of meetings with government representatives and other key stakeholders aimed at addressing the grievances of the nurses, which include poor working conditions, unpaid allowances, shortage of staff, and demands for better welfare packages.

In a statement released on Friday, the association said it had received firm commitments from the government to meet a significant number of its demands, prompting the suspension of the strike in the interest of public health and patient care.

β€œWe have resolved to suspend the strike with immediate effect while monitoring the government’s response to our demands,” the statement read. β€œWe recognize the hardship our action may have caused patients and the general public, and we assure everyone that we will continue to fight for improved healthcare delivery in a responsible and constructive manner.”

Health services are expected to resume fully at public hospitals and clinics nationwide as nurses return to their duty posts. The government has promised to implement agreed resolutions within a specified timeline.
