President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed the Armed Forces, Nigeria Police Force, DSS and other security and intelligence agencies to immediately launch a coordinated operation to rescue victims of the recent mass abduction in Niger State.
The directive followed an attack in Borgu Local Government Area, where gunmen abducted residents, including worshippers, during attacks on communities in the area. A video circulating online appeared to show a large number of captives, although the exact number of victims has not been independently confirmed.
President Tinubu condemned the abduction and killings, describing the perpetrators as “enemies of peace and enemies of humanity” and warning that they would not go unpunished.
He assured families of the victims that the government would deploy all necessary resources to secure their loved ones, saying: “We will not rest until your sons, daughters, mothers and fathers are brought back safely to you.”
The President has also ordered the Service Chiefs to provide regular briefings on the rescue operation until all abducted persons are accounted for.
Tinubu further assured the people and government of Niger State of federal support for recovery, relief and security reinforcement, declaring that terrorism would not intimidate the country.
