On Monday, the Kwara State Fire Service successfully recovered the body of a 57-year-old woman, Mrs. Jamiu Sikirat, from a well in Ilorin, the state capital.

Mrs. Sikirat, who was from the Ile-Agunko Compound in the Adeta area of Ilorin West Local Government Area, tragically fell into the well on Monday evening around 6:42 pm.

Hassan Adekunle, the spokesperson for the state fire service, stated that they received a phone call from Mr. Muhammad Jamiu, a resident in the area where the incident took place, alerting them of the situation.

He said that firemen were able to recover the dead body from the well and later handed it over to one Alfa Abdulganiyu Akuko, a family member of the deceased, in the presence of Nigerian Police officers from Adewole Division, Ilorin.

According to reports, Mrs. Sikirat had gone to the well to fetch water when she accidentally tripped with one of her legs, causing her fall into the well.

Prince Falade John Olumuyiwa, the Director of Kwara State Fire Service, expressed deep sadness over the incident.

Olumuyiwa advised the general public to exercise caution in their daily activities and avoid sending children to fetch water from wells.

It is would be recalled that a similar incident occurred in July 2022 when a 25-year-old male, Banji Adebayo, slipped off the edge of a well early on a Monday morning in Ile-Nla, Irepodun Local Government Area of Kwara State.
