Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, has been formally presented to the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, as the All Progressives Congress consensus governorship candidate ahead of the 2027 Lagos State election.

The presentation was made during a high level political engagement involving senior party stakeholders drawn from key structures within the Lagos APC. Hamzat was introduced as the agreed choice emerging from ongoing internal consultations aimed at shaping the party direction ahead of the next electoral cycle.

Party sources indicate that the meeting formed part of broader reconciliation and alignment efforts within the ruling party in Lagos, where discussions around succession planning have been ongoing among influential political leaders and advisory blocs.

Dr. Hamzat, who has served as deputy governor since 2019 under Governor Babajide Sanwo Olu, is widely regarded as a central figure within the current Lagos political structure. His role in governance and long standing presence within the party hierarchy have placed him in a strategic position as the APC begins early preparations for 2027.

Stakeholders involved in the process are said to be pushing for internal unity and a coordinated front to avoid divisions that could weaken the party’s dominance in the state. The presentation to the First Lady is being viewed within political circles as part of efforts to consolidate consensus around a single direction.

However, party officials maintain that the development does not yet represent a final endorsement through formal electoral procedures. The APC is expected to continue internal consultations and follow established processes before any official confirmation of candidates for the governorship race.

The Lagos political landscape is gradually heating up as various interests within the party continue positioning ahead of the next election, with succession planning emerging as a key focus among stakeholders.
