Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has revealed that security forces ran into Improvised Explosive Devices planted by kidnappers during a rescue operation for the 46 abducted victims in Oriire Local Government Area. He also confirmed that one of the abducted teachers, reportedly the Maths teacher, has been killed by the terrorists.

Speaking after a security review meeting, Makinde said seven teachers were abducted, while the exact number of pupils remains unconfirmed. He expressed condolences to the families of the murdered teacher and to wounded security personnel, including soldiers, Amotekun Corps, and local vigilantes, who are responding to treatment.

The governor disclosed that six suspected informants and three persons of interest have been arrested in connection with the attack. He appealed for patience, noting that both kinetic and non-kinetic approaches are being deployed, but there may be no quick fixes.

Makinde also warned that terrorists fleeing pressure in the North-West and North-East are moving southwards, calling for collaboration with neighbouring states to repel the threat. He assured citizens of daily briefings on rescue progress.
