The 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) has been marred by scandal, with the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) revealing that 14 suspects from Anambra State are among the 80 individuals nationwide being interrogated for alleged involvement in exam malpractice.

According to JAMB, a total of 39,834 results have been withheld due to irregularities linked to cheating and impersonation.

This development has cast a shadow over the examination process, which saw over 1.9 million candidates participate.

JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, disclosed that “467 underage candidates met the prescribed minimum score, 50 were engaged in cheating scandal.”

He made this known during a press briefing on Friday.

The fate of the withheld results remains uncertain, with JAMB yet to disclose if and when they will be released or if some will be outrightly cancelled.

The exam body has faced criticism for its inability to curb recurring fraud despite deploying surveillance and monitoring technologies.

As the controversy unfolds, a full report from the board is expected, shedding more light on the examination irregularities and the measures being taken to address them.
