Several Prospective Corps Members (PCMs) from Adeyemi Federal University of Education (AFUED), Ondo, have died in a road accident while travelling to the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Orientation Camp in Gombe State.

The incident occurred on Wednesday when an 18-seater bus conveying the students was involved in a fatal crash along their travel route. According to preliminary reports, nearly all occupants of the vehicle died on the spot, while two survivors were taken to a medical facility for urgent treatment.

Authorities have not yet released the official number of casualties, but the university community and families of the victims have been thrown into mourning following the development.

The cause of the accident had not been confirmed at press time, and relevant agencies were still compiling details.

The tragedy adds to a series of recent road accidents involving prospective corps members across the country. Stakeholders have begun calling for a review of NYSC mobilisation logistics and improved road safety measures for long-distance inter-state travel.

Officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the NYSC, and the institution are expected to issue formal statements as investigations continue.
