The United Kingdom has commended the peaceful conduct of the August 15 Osun governorship election and congratulated Governor Ademola Adeleke on his re-election.

The British High Commission in Nigeria said its accredited observers witnessed encouraging signs, including orderly polling, maintenance of security and effective implementation of electoral procedures by INEC officials. It also praised voters for their patience and participation.

However, the UK raised concerns over vote-buying across party lines, access to polling units for persons with disabilities and elderly voters, as well as overcrowding linked to the limited availability and speed of BVAS devices.

The High Commission urged relevant institutions to review the challenges and apply lessons from the election to strengthen transparency, accountability and public confidence ahead of the 2027 general elections.
