INEC Declares Governor Oyebanji Winner of Ekiti Governorship Election in Landslide Victory

The Independent National Electoral Commission has declared Governor Biodun Oyebanji of the All Progressives Congress the winner of the 2026 Ekiti State governorship election, securing a second term in office .

The Returning Officer for the election, Professor Adenike Oladiji, Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Akure, announced the final results in the early hours of Sunday at the INEC headquarters in Ado-Ekiti . Oyebanji polled 319,224 votes, defeating his closest rival, Olumayokun Oluyede of the Peoples Democratic Party, who secured 40,543 votes, and Dare Bejide of the African Democratic Congress, who garnered 12,872 votes .

According to INEC, the state has 988,251 registered voters, with 384,940 accredited for the election . A total of 382,109 votes were cast, out of which 375,777 were valid .

Oyebanji’s victory marks a historic moment, as he becomes the first governor in Ekiti State’s history to win re-election back-to-back, breaking the state’s succession jinx . He also recorded the highest votes in any governorship poll in the state since 1999 .
