The Independent National Electoral Commission has declared Rabiu Garba Aiki of the All Progressives Congress the winner of the Zuru State Constituency by-election for the Kebbi State House of Assembly .
Aiki polled 4,871 votes to defeat his closest rival, Aliyu Galadima Muhammad of the Labour Party, who secured 168 votes . The result was announced at the collation centre by the Returning Officer, Professor Muhammad Bashar Danladi of the Federal University Birnin Kebbi .
According to the electoral officer, the constituency has 109,385 registered voters, while 5,156 voters were accredited for the by-election. A total of 5,055 valid votes were recorded, with 95 votes rejected .
The APC candidate won in all 10 wards of the constituency . In Rafin Zuru Ward, the largest voting ward, Aiki polled 1,042 votes against 63 votes for the LP candidate . In Bedi Ward, he secured 830 votes compared to 34 votes for his opponent .
The by-election was conducted to fill the vacancy created by the death of the former Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Muhammad Usman Zuru . Voter turnout was low across most polling units, with accredited voters representing only a small fraction of the total registered voters in the constituency .
