NNPCL extends Invitation to Obasanjo to verify Port Harcourt refinery’s operational status

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has invited former President Olusegun Obasanjo to tour the Port Harcourt Refinery, following his recent claims that the refinery wouldn’t function effectively due to corruption.

Obasanjo had cited advice from Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC), which expressed concerns about corruption impeding the refinery’s operations.

NNPCL’s Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Olufemi Soneye, extended the invitation, emphasizing the company’s commitment to transparency and accountability. Soneye stated, ‘We extend an open invitation to President Obasanjo for a tour of the rehabilitated refineries to witness firsthand the progress made under the new NNPC Limited.’

Soneye also highlighted the company’s transformation into an integrated energy company, with notable achievements including the complete rehabilitation of the Port Harcourt Refining Company (PhRC) and Warri Refinery.

The NNPCL has evolved from a government corporation to a private entity with limited liability, shifting from a loss-making organization to a profit-driven international energy firm.
