The All Progressives Congress (APC) has taken drastic measures against Rauf Aregbesola, a former Minister of Interior and ex-governor of Osun State, expelling him from the party due to alleged anti-party activities.

This decision was made after an investigation and approval by the State Executive Committee (SEC), which found Aregbesola guilty of breaching Article 21 of the APC Constitution.

The expulsion was confirmed in an official letter jointly signed by Tajudeen Lawal, State Chairman, and Olabisi Kamoru, Secretary.

The letter stated that Aregbesola’s actions had undermined the unity and integrity of the party, and warned him against identifying as a member or acting on behalf of the party in any capacity.

Aregbesola had previously led a faction within the APC known as The Osun Progressives, which was later rebranded as the Omoluabi Caucus.

The faction had been in conflict with the state party leadership. His expulsion followed a meeting of the Omoluabi Caucus, where Aregbesola announced the group’s decision to leave the APC, citing the party’s declining influence in Osun State.

According to Aregbesola, “We are leaving to build a stronger political movement.” This statement underscores the faction’s desire to create a new political force that can effectively challenge the APC’s dominance in the state.

APC officials in Osun State have defended the disciplinary action, stating that it was necessary to restore order within the party. “The party cannot tolerate disloyalty and divisive actions,” an unnamed official said.

This move is seen as a significant step towards maintaining party discipline and unity.
