Tuggar, Morgan Trade Words Over Unedited Interview

British broadcaster Piers Morgan and Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, exchanged words over the airing of a yet-to-be-released interview on Morgan’s show, Piers Morgan Uncensored.

Tuggar, who appeared on the program to provide what he described as a “factual and contextual perspective” on claims of religious persecution in Nigeria, requested that the interview be aired in full, without edits or selective omissions.

“However, for the sake of integrity and transparency, it is essential that the full interview be aired exactly as recorded. Nigeria’s truth must not be distorted to fit external biases,” Tuggar said during a statement on Wednesday.

Morgan responded to the request by suggesting the minister was uneasy about the interview. “You seem to be panicking, foreign minister. Rest assured, we will air your comments in full; the show is called Uncensored for a reason,” he said on Thursday.

Tuggar dismissed Morgan’s remarks with a calm rebuttal, describing himself as “as cool as a cucumber.” He added, “And if I wasn’t more equable, I would say you are flattering yourself, but I won’t. Just want to make sure you don’t edit out the parts where you kept referring to the ‘Chibok Boys’! Well researched.” The remark appeared to reference Morgan’s alleged confusion between the Chibok schoolgirls abducted by Boko Haram in 2014 and other events.

As of press time, the interview has not yet been released on Morgan’s YouTube channel, and there is no official word on its scheduled airing.

The exchange has generated attention both in Nigeria and internationally, highlighting sensitivities around media coverage of the country’s security and human rights issues.
