Troops of the 12 Brigade Nigerian Army deployed at Forward Operating Base (FOB) Oguma have rescued two kidnapped victims and recovered ₦3.8 million ransom during a counter-kidnapping operation in Kogi State.

The operation, which took place on November 2, 2025, followed credible intelligence on kidnapping activities along the Itobe–Adumu–Ejule axis, as well as reports that relatives of some victims were attempting to deliver ransom for their release.

Acting on the tip-off, troops launched a swift patrol towards Achigili Forest to intercept the kidnappers. However, while en route to the area, the soldiers came under fire from the criminals.

In the ensuing exchange, the troops overpowered the bandits with superior firepower, forcing them to abandon two hostages and the ransom money before escaping into the forest with gunshot wounds.

The soldiers rescued the victims and recovered ₦3,800,000, which had been intended for ransom payment. The victims were debriefed to aid further investigations, while the recovered cash was returned to them. They are currently in safe custody pending handover to relevant authorities.

The Nigerian Army reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property, and urged members of the public to continue providing credible information that could assist security operations across the state.
