PHOTOS: JAMB Extends 2025 Public Universities’ Admissions Deadline to November 17

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has extended the deadline for the completion of admissions into public universities for the 2025 academic year.

According to a statement released by the Board on its official X handle on Monday, the new deadline is now Monday, November 17, 2025, replacing the earlier date of Friday, October 31, 2025.

The decision, JAMB said, was taken following “emergent and compelling circumstances” that affected the smooth conduct of the ongoing admission process.

The extension aligns with the resolutions of the 2025 Policy Meeting on Admissions held on July 18, 2025, which was chaired by the Minister of Education, Maruf Tunji Alausa, where the initial deadline was approved.

Two major factors were cited for the review. First, the Association of Vice-Chancellors of Nigerian Universities (AVCNU) appealed for an extension following disruptions caused by a court order that temporarily halted the 2025/2026 admission list, an injunction that was only lifted on October 28, 2025.

Secondly, the National Universities Commission (NUC), in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, released a list of 229 newly accredited programmes across 37 universities on October 29, 2025, requiring additional time for proper processing and verification of new admissions.

JAMB commended public universities for their diligence in adhering to the previous timeline, noting that the extension aims to ensure fairness, inclusiveness, and expanded access for all qualified candidates.

The Board stressed that the new deadline is final and must be strictly observed, reiterating its commitment to maintaining a transparent and credible admission process consistent with national education goals and institutional autonomy.
