The Lagos State Government has officially declared 176 housing estates across the state as illegal developments. Among the affected estates are well-known names like Adron Homes, Lekki County, and Anchorville.

This was disclosed by the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr. Oluyinka Olumide, during a media briefing held in Alausa, Ikeja.

Dr. Olumide explained that the listed estates were developed without obtaining necessary government approvals or conforming to the state’s physical planning regulations. He noted that many of the estates were not captured in the Lagos State official layout plan, making them unauthorized and illegal.

The commissioner also warned that some developers are misleading the public by advertising lands and properties in these estates without valid documents or government consent.

The illegal estates are spread across different parts of the state including Ibeju-Lekki, Epe, Ikorodu, Badagry, and Eti-Osa local government areas.

As part of its response, the Lagos State Government has urged members of the public, especially property buyers and investors, to verify the planning status of any estate before making financial commitments.

Dr. Olumide advised the developers behind these illegal estates to come forward and begin the process of regularizing their developments, warning that failure to do so will lead to enforcement actions, which may include sealing, demolition, or legal prosecution.

The government said the move is part of efforts to promote sustainable urban development, protect the environment, and ensure public safety in the face of rising building collapses and unregulated construction.
