President Bola Tinubu has made sweeping changes to his cabinet, dismissing five ministers, reassigning 10 others to new portfolios, and nominating seven new ministers for Senate confirmation.

The Ministers who were relieved of their duties are Uju-Ken Ohanenye, former Minister of Women Affairs; Lola Ade-John, former Minister of Tourism; Tahir Mamman, former Minister of Education; Abdullahi Gwarzo, former Minister of State, Housing and Urban Development; and Jamila Ibrahim, former Minister of Youth Development.

In addition to the dismissals, 10 ministers were reassigned to new portfolios. Notable reassignments include Hon. Dr. Yusuf Tanko Sununu, who moves from Minister of State, Education to Minister of State, Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, and Dr. Morufu Olatunji Alausa, who transitions from Minister of State, Water Resources and Sanitation to Minister of Regional Development.

President Tinubu also nominated seven new ministers for Senate confirmation. The nominees are:

  1. Dr. Nentawe Yilwatda – Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction
  2. Bianca Odinaka Odumegu-Ojukwu – Minister of State, Foreign Affairs
  3. Dr. Jumoke Oduwole – Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment
  4. Muhammadu Maigari Dingyadi
  5. Idi Mukhtar Maiha
  6. Rt. Hon. Yusuf Abdullahi
  7. Suwaiba Said Ahmad

Furthermore, President Tinubu appointed Shehu Dikko as the new Chairman of the National Sports Commission and Sunday Akin Dare as Special Adviser on Public Communication and Orientation, working from the Ministry of Information and National Orientation.

The reshuffle and appointments are seen as part of President Tinubu’s broader strategy to rejuvenate his cabinet and enhance the performance of key sectors.

The President has charged the newly appointed and reassigned ministers to prioritize Nigeria’s growth and development, urging them to see their appointments as a call to serve the nation.
