President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has hosted Nigeria’s national women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja following their historic triumph at the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket Championship.

D’Tigress secured their place in African basketball history after clinching their seventh AfroBasket title — and a record fifth consecutive win, having dominated the tournament held in Kigali, Rwanda. The team defeated Senegal in a thrilling final to reaffirm their status as Africa’s top women’s basketball side.

President Tinubu, while receiving the team, congratulated them for their dedication, resilience, and for flying the Nigerian flag high on the continental stage. He described their victory as a testament to the talent, strength, and spirit of Nigerian women.

The president also commended the coaching crew, support staff, and the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) for their efforts in preparing the team and maintaining high standards. He pledged continued government support for women’s sports development and announced rewards for the players and officials in recognition of their achievement.

D’Tigress Captain, Sarah Ogoke, who spoke on behalf of the team, thanked the president for the warm reception and for his support. She reaffirmed the team’s commitment to maintaining excellence and making the nation proud in upcoming international tournaments.

The reception was attended by top government officials, sports administrators, and members of the basketball community.
