POLICE MOVE TO AVERT THIRD MAINLAND BRIDGE BLOCKADE AS OWORONSHOKI YOUTHS THREATEN PROTEST

Tension is brewing in Lagos as youths in the Oworonshoki area have threatened to stage a protest and block the Third Mainland Bridge on Monday in response to the ongoing demolition of structures in the waterfront community.

A notice circulating among residents on Sunday warned commuters to plan alternative routes, stating:
“Please for those that have planned to work tomorrow morning (Monday, 27th October, 2025), be informed that you should plan your route inward island and inward mainland because Oworonshoki youths are planning to lock down the THIRD MAINLAND BRIDGE in protest against the demolition going on in Oworonshoki community. Please be guided.”

The warning follows the circulation of videos over the weekend showing residents of the Precious Seed area of Oworonshoki fleeing after security operatives reportedly fired teargas during a demolition exercise led by Lagos government officials.

Reacting to the development, the Lagos State Police Command assured the public that adequate security measures have been put in place to prevent any form of disruption.

Police spokesperson Abimbola Adebisi said officers have been deployed to maintain order and ensure free movement across the city.

“The command is aware of the planned protest and has taken proactive steps to ensure peace and order. Residents are advised to go about their lawful activities without fear,” Adebisi said.
