Police Deny Forcing Officers to Buy N2,000 Handbook

The Nigeria Police Force has denied reports alleging that it compelled its personnel to purchase a handbook titled “Attitudinal Change Handbook for the Nigeria Police Force” for N2,000.

An online publication had claimed that the Force made the purchase of the handbook mandatory for all officers nationwide and set a deadline for payment.

However, documents sighted on Monday showed that the approval for the book’s distribution came through a letter dated May 28, 2025, from the Department of Training and Development, Force Headquarters, Abuja.

The letter, signed by the Commissioner of Police (Training), Rashid Afegbua, on behalf of the Deputy Inspector-General of Police, stated that the author, Dr. Joseph Danley, was only granted permission to market the handbook directly to officers interested in buying it.

Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Benjamin Hundeyin, also dismissed the report, describing it as misleading.

He clarified that the purchase of the handbook was entirely voluntary and that no command had been instructed to compel officers to buy it.
