Flight operations have resumed at the Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport in Ibadan, Oyo State, following the completion of the runway upgrade project.

The upgrade, which had led to the suspension of local flights at the facility, was carried out to strengthen the airport’s infrastructure, improve safety standards, and meet regulatory requirements for smooth operations. Authorities say the newly completed runway will enhance both passenger and aircraft safety, reduce delays, and improve overall efficiency of services at the airport.

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) and the Oyo State Government have both expressed optimism that the reopening of the runway will boost air connectivity in the Southwest region. With local flights resuming, travelers will now enjoy improved convenience, while businesses are expected to benefit from easier movement of people and goods.

The development is also seen as a major step towards positioning Ibadan as a viable aviation hub outside Lagos, easing pressure on the Murtala Muhammed Airport and promoting regional economic growth.
