The International Organization for Migration (IOM) has successfully facilitated the voluntary return of 151 Nigerian nationals from Sudan as part of its Voluntary Humanitarian Return (VHR) programme.

The returnees, who had been stranded due to the prolonged crisis in Sudan, were flown back to Nigeria via a chartered flight. The IOM stated that the evacuation was carried out in collaboration with the Federal Government of Nigeria and relevant partners to ensure the safe and dignified return of the affected citizens.

The organisation explained that the VHR programme is designed to assist migrants who are stranded or vulnerable, providing them with safe travel, reintegration support, and opportunities to restart their lives in their home countries.

Officials disclosed that the returnees will undergo medical screening, profiling, and reintegration assistance, including psychosocial support and vocational training opportunities to help them rebuild their livelihoods.

The IOM reiterated its commitment to working closely with Nigerian authorities to ensure the protection and welfare of its citizens abroad, especially those trapped in conflict zones.
