United States Deputy Secretary of State, Christopher Landau, has held talks with Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, on strengthening economic and security cooperation between both countries.

The meeting, which took place in Abuja, reflected the ongoing efforts of Nigeria and the U.S. to consolidate their long-standing bilateral relationship. Discussions centered on shared priorities, including regional security, counterterrorism, economic development, and fostering greater investment opportunities in Africa.

According to diplomatic sources, both officials emphasized the need for closer collaboration in addressing transnational threats such as terrorism, organized crime, and maritime insecurity in the Gulf of Guinea. They also explored strategies to boost trade and investment, with a view to creating jobs and promoting inclusive growth across the continent.

Landau reaffirmed Washington’s commitment to working with Nigeria in advancing peace, stability, and prosperity, describing the country as a key partner in Africa. Tuggar, on his part, welcomed the U.S. support and reiterated Nigeria’s readiness to engage in mutually beneficial partnerships that drive development and security.

The meeting comes at a time both nations are seeking to strengthen alliances to confront global and regional challenges, while deepening diplomatic and economic ties.
