The Depot Nigerian Army, Osogbo, has successfully concluded an inter-company endurance race competition for Recruits of the 89 Regular Intake. The event featured both 10-kilometer and 5-kilometer races, aimed at building stamina, resilience, and teamwork—qualities vital for effective military service.

In the 5-kilometer category, Juliet Company emerged champions, while Delta Company finished last and received the wooden spoon.

The 10-kilometer race produced a different outcome, with Charlie Company claiming the top spot. Interestingly, Juliet Company, winners of the shorter race, finished last in the 10-kilometer contest and were awarded the wooden spoon.

Individual excellence was also recognized, as standout male and female recruits, nicknamed the “Black Panthers”, received cash prizes for their outstanding performances.

Speaking at the event, the Commandant of the Depot, Brigadier General Buhari Madaki, commended the recruits for their enthusiasm and determination. He congratulated all participants and encouraged them to remain committed as they advance in training. General Madaki emphasized that the endurance race was not only a test of physical fitness but also a platform for discipline, camaraderie, and resilience.

He further charged instructors to sustain their efforts in producing well-trained soldiers who will make the Nigerian Arm and the nation at large proud.

The event was hailed as a resounding success, demonstrating the recruits’ determination, teamwork, and physical readiness as they continue their journey to becoming professional soldiers.
