Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has called on the Ijebu kingmakers to ensure fairness, transparency, and unity in the process of selecting the next Awujale of Ijebuland.

Speaking through his representatives during a stakeholders’ meeting in Ijebu-Ode, Governor Abiodun emphasized that the succession to the revered throne must reflect the will and traditions of the Ijebu people while upholding peace and stability in the kingdom.

He urged the kingmakers to put aside personal interests and avoid actions that could jeopardize the harmony of Ijebuland, stressing that the Awujale stool remains one of the most respected traditional institutions in Nigeria.

The governor further assured that his administration would continue to respect traditional institutions and support the process in line with established customs and the law of the land.

The call comes as anticipation grows among indigenes and traditional rulers over who will succeed the late Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, who reigned for over six decades as the Awujale of Ijebuland.

Governor Abiodun described the throne as a unifying symbol and charged the kingmakers to uphold the legacy of the late monarch by choosing a successor who embodies wisdom, integrity, and the spirit of service to the people.
