A passenger train traveling from Abuja to Kaduna derailed on Tuesday morning, sparking panic among commuters.

The incident occurred around 11 a.m. near Asham, along the Abuja–Kaduna rail corridor, with several coaches reportedly veering off the tracks and overturning. Passengers were seen scrambling to safety as security operatives moved in to restore order.

The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) confirmed the derailment in a statement, noting that emergency response teams and medical personnel were swiftly deployed. Military operatives were also mobilized to assist with evacuation and ensure the safety of stranded passengers.

As of press time, no casualties have been officially confirmed, and the exact cause of the derailment remains under investigation.

The Abuja–Kaduna rail line, a critical transport link between the Federal Capital Territory and Kaduna State, has faced multiple security and operational challenges in recent years.
