Ile-Ife, Ọṣun State — The 2025 edition of the Olojo Festival, one of the oldest and most revered cultural events in Yorùbáland, officially commenced today, September 20, in Ile-Ife, Ọṣun State.

The festival, which runs through September 29, celebrates “the Day of the First Dawn,” marking the creation of the earth by the Almighty. It symbolises renewal, unity, and the spiritual authority of Ile-Ife as the cradle of mankind.

The Ọọni of Ifè, Ọba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, is expected to perform sacred rites during the festival, including the wearing of the historic Aare Crown, believed to hold deep spiritual power. His participation underscores the role of the Yorùbá Ooni as custodian of Yorùbá culture and tradition.

Highlights of this year’s celebration include the Olojo 5K Road Race, cultural parades, traditional music and dance, and the Grand Finale, which is expected to attract a large turnout of visitors, dignitaries, and cultural enthusiasts from within and outside Nigeria.

Beyond its cultural and spiritual significance, the Olojo Festival has become a driver of tourism and economic activity in Ile-Ife. Hoteliers, traders, and transport operators in the ancient city are already recording increased patronage, with thousands of pilgrims and tourists expected to participate in the festivities.

Security agencies have assured residents and visitors of adequate safety measures throughout the period of the festival.

For the Yorùbá nation and beyond, the Olojo Festival continues to serve as a symbol of identity, resilience, and cultural pride.
