Lucky Aiyedatiwa has been sworn in as the governor of Ondo State, marking the beginning of his first four-year term.

The inauguration ceremony took place at the Ondo State Sports Complex in Akure, the state capital, on Monday, February 24, 2025.

Aiyedatiwa’s journey to the Governorship began when he assumed the role of Acting Governor in December 2023, following Governor Rotimi Akeredolu’s struggle with ill health.

After Akeredolu’s passing on December 27, 2023, Aiyedatiwa was sworn in as the substantive Governor.

In the November 16, 2024, governorship election, Aiyedatiwa secured a full four-year term, winning over 366,000 votes as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate.

He defeated his closest rival, Agboola Ajayi of the Peoples Democratic Party, who garnered approximately 117,000 votes.

During his inauguration speech, Aiyedatiwa outlined his administration’s goals, including making Ondo State a model for sustainable development and good governance.

He also promised to prioritize education, healthcare, and infrastructure development.

Ahead of his inauguration, Aiyedatiwa pardoned 43 convicts, marking the beginning of his term as Governor.
