LAGOS — The Lagos State Government on Thursday began the demolition of illegal and defective structures at the Trade Fair Complex in Ojo Local Government Area.

The exercise targets buildings without statutory approvals, defective structures, and those erected on road setbacks and drainage channels.

The operation is being carried out by a joint team from the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA), Lagos State Urban Renewal Agency (LASURA), and the Lagos State Physical Planning Permit Authority (LASPPPA), with the support of security agencies and members of the Lagos State House of Assembly.

Bulldozers moved into the complex early in the day to pull down marked buildings, while property owners and traders looked on. Officials said the enforcement followed repeated warnings to developers and an amnesty window that gave owners time to regularise their structures.

The government reiterated that it would no longer tolerate unapproved developments, especially those obstructing drainage systems or encroaching on public infrastructure.

As of press time, no casualty had been reported, while officials assured that the exercise would be conducted in an orderly manner to prevent disruptions.
