Justice Kudirat becomes Nigeria’s second female CJN

Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun will be sworn in as the 18th Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), marking a significant milestone in the country’s judicial history.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will administer the oath of office to Justice Kekere-Ekun at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, surrounded by dignitaries, judiciary officials, and well-wishers.

Following the retirement of CJN Justice Olukayode Ariwoola who is expected to leave the post on August 22 after attaining the mandatory retirement age of 70 years.

Justice Kudirat is expected to take over from him as the néw Chief Justice of Nigeria

Justice Ekundayo, a distinguished Yoruba woman, was born in London, United Kingdom, to parents who trace their roots back to Lagos.

Justice Kekere-Ekun’s appointment is historic, as she will become the second female Chief Justice of Nigeria.

Justice Kekere-Ekun is expected to serve a term of up to four years, compared to the average two-year tenure of her predecessors.
