A state of emergency over passport issues has been declared throughout the nation by Caroline Wura-Ola Adepoju, Acting Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS).
Adepoju stated this during a working visit to Lagos, emphasizing the urgent need to address challenges faced by Nigerians in obtaining international passport.
In a statement signed by Tony Akuneme, Comptroller of Immigration in charge of Media and Publicity, the Ag. CGI had developed a comprehensive plan of action to tackle these issues effectively.
The Nigeria Immigration boss earlier directed all Passport Control Officers, relevant units and personnel within the Nigeria Immigration Service, including foreign missions, to work tirelessly towards eliminating all hindrances preventing Nigerians from accessing passports promptly.
The Ag. CGI urged all Nigerians to remain patient and cooperate with the NIS as it took decisive steps to address passport crisis, assuring the public that efforts were being made to ensure that every eligible Nigerian who required a passport could obtain one in a timely manner.
