Bashir Ahmad, a former aide to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, has sparked controversy with his recent tweet, where he claimed to be “honoured” to be labelled an Islamic extremist.

His comment came in response to a message on social media platform X, which praised Yahya Sinwar, the recently assassinated Hamas leader.

The original tweet read, “As a Muslim, once they start to call you an extremist, just know you are on the right path.

β€œThe path of truth. Never be discouraged by their actions, stay true to your faith and Allah will guide you through.”

Ahmad responded, “It is an honour to be called an Islamic extremist.” His comment was met with widespread criticism, with many condemning his apparent endorsement of violent extremism.

Ahmad’s tweet has since been deleted, but its impact has already been felt, with many questioning his stance and expressing concern over his views.

This development comes at a time of heightened tensions surrounding religious and political extremism in Nigeria.
