July 8, 2023 1 min read

The attackers targeted traders and transporters who were allegedly flouting the sit-at-home order.

Eyewitnesses reported that the gunmen expressed anger towards the traders and transporters for not adhering to the order.

They set fire to parts of the market and commercial vehicles in retaliation.

As they departed, they fired indiscriminately and continued to burn vehicles in the Obolo community.

The incident resulted in the destruction of property worth millions of naira, affecting poor businesswomen and low-income earners.

The Imo State Police Command assured the public that they are taking necessary measures to apprehend the perpetrators and bring them to justice.

They urged stakeholders in the state to warn their communities against enforcing the unlawful sit-at-home order. The police emphasized that individuals should go about their lawful activities without fear or intimidation and report any criminal activities related to the sit-at-home order to the authorities.
