Operatives of the Department of State Services have arrested a suspected notorious bandit during a covert raid in Bojinji Village on the outskirts of Bauchi. The operation, carried out in the early hours of the morning, led to the recovery of millions of naira in cash and a significant cache of live ammunition hidden inside the suspect’s residence.

Security sources told Zagazola Makama that the suspect had recently relocated from Zamfara State and moved into the community with his family, claiming he was escaping persecution. Bauchi has become a major destination for displaced persons fleeing violence in neighbouring states, but security officials warn that some criminal elements have taken advantage of this trend to blend into host communities.

Residents described the suspect as unusually flamboyant. He reportedly spent long hours drinking at Unguwar Yelwan Angas, frequently buying alcohol for others and living far above the income level expected in the area. However, no one linked him to banditry until the DSS operation exposed his activities.

Officials say further investigations are underway to track his associates and uncover the network that supported his movement from Zamfara into Bauchi.
