Nigeria has lost a media icon and trailblazer as Dr. Doyin Abiola, former Managing Director of National Concord and wife of the late business mogul and acclaimed winner of the annulled June 12, 1993 presidential election, Chief MKO Abiola, has passed away.

Dr. Abiola was a highly respected journalist, media administrator, and pioneer who broke barriers as the first female Managing Director of a Nigerian daily newspaper. Her leadership and dedication helped shape National Concord into one of the countryโ€™s most influential publications during her tenure.

Details surrounding her death remain scarce at the time of this report, as family and close associates are yet to release an official statement.

Dr. Abiolaโ€™s passing marks the end of an era for Nigerian journalism and media development. She is remembered for her fearless journalism, deep commitment to press freedom, and immense contributions to the Nigerian media landscape.

Condolences have continued to pour in from media organisations, colleagues, and political leaders across the country who describe her as a beacon of integrity and a role model for women in leadership.

More details on funeral arrangements are expected to be announced by the family.
