Lagos court on Tuesday has delivered its judgment on Benjamin Ogba, as Justice Abiola Soladoye of the Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court sentenced the former head teacher to life imprisonment for defiling two underage girls.

The victims, both seven years old, were subjected to unlawful sexual intercourse by Ogba on multiple occasions in April and May 2019 at Shalom Private School, Oke-Ira Road, Ebutte Metta, Lagos.

Justice Soladoye emphasized that the prosecution had proven the case beyond a reasonable doubt, with sufficient evidence to satisfy the court. She expressed outrage at Ogba’s actions, stating, “This serial paedophile, a head teacher, who is expected to teach his students morals, stooped so low and defiled the underage girls. What a shame!”

The judge praised the survivors for their bravery in testifying against their assailant, encouraging parents to report sexual abuse cases to the authorities. Soladoye stressed the importance of continuous education and awareness in protecting young children’s rights.

Ogba’s conviction contravened Section 137 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015. He was found guilty on two counts of defilement and sentenced to life imprisonment on each count. The sentences will run concurrently.

As part of the verdict, Ogba’s name will be registered in the Sexual Offenders Register maintained by Lagos State.

The case highlights the need for increased vigilance and protection of children from sexual predators, particularly those in positions of authority.
