Breaking: Dele Momodu breaks with PDP, calls party a ‘Carcass’ overrun by Anti-Democratic elements

Prominent journalist and former presidential aspirant, Chief Dele Momodu, has announced his formal departure from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), criticizing the party for being commandeered by elements hostile to democratic values.

In a resignation letter dated July 17, 2025, addressed to the PDP Ward 4 Chairman in Thievhe, Owan East Local Government Area of Edo State, Momodu expressed disillusionment with the party’s direction.

He accused the leadership of betraying the aspirations of Nigerians looking for a credible opposition party.

Momodu, who became a member of the PDP in 2021 and sought the party’s presidential nomination for the 2023 elections, stated his reason for quitting was clear-cut.

He chose to leave what he described as the party’s “carcass” to those who have taken over, while many genuine members like himself are joining the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Part of the statement read, “I wish to inform you of my decision to resign from our political party, PDP, with immediate effect. My reason is simple and straightforward. Our party has been unarguably hijacked by antidemocratic forces, from within and outside, in broad daylight. “It is, therefore, honourable to abandon the carcass of the party to them while the majority of us carnestly sign up with the new coalition party known as the African Democratic Congress (ADC).โ€

“I will forever treasure the kind support you gave me at all times,” Momodu added.
