Bandits launch attack on Southern Kaduna churches, kill 3, abduct 30 others

Bandits in it usual horrific assault attacked two churches, leaving three people dead and 30 others kidnapped, including a pastor in Bakinpah-Maro, Kajuru Local Government Area, Kaduna State.

The incident occurred on Sunday morning.

According to Cafra Caino, former chairman of Kajuru LGA, the bandits descended upon the area around 10am, targeting an ECWA church and a Catholic church.

The attack comes amidst efforts by the Maro community to enhance security, including fundraising for a security post to attract more law enforcement personnel.

The community has faced persistent security issues, disrupting farming activities.

In a separate operation, troops from the Nigerian Army’s Sector 4, Operation Whirl Punch, rescued 13 kidnapped victims, neutralized insurgents, and captured others alive in Kaduna State. Samuel Aruwan, overseeing Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, confirmed the recovery of dangerous weapons from the terrorists.

The troops responded to credible intelligence on bandits moving kidnapped victims in Chigulu village, Kachia LGA.

According to report, β€œThe troops subsequently mobilised for a rescue operation at the location of the suspected bandits’ camp,” the statement read.

β€œThe troops arrived at the location and made contact with the bandits. An intense gun battle ensued at the base of a high ground in the area. The bandits were subdued and fled into the dense forest, abandoning their hostages.

β€œThe security forces went on to rescue the 13 hostages, comprising six men and seven women, from the hideout.

β€œThe troops dislodged the camp, and destroyed various items like such as clothing and personal effects, at the site.

β€œThe rescued victims were conveyed to a military facility for examination and debriefing, before being reunited with their families,” he had said.

However, An investigation is underway to identify the perpetrators and rescue the abducted individuals.
