A recent encounter between the Ogun State Security Network, also known as the Amotekun Corps, and a gang of robbers resulted in the death of one suspect and the arrest of two others.

The incident occurred near Southwestern University along the Sagamu-Ijebu Ode Expressway on Sunday.

According to the Corps Commander, Brigadier General Alade Adedigba (retd.), one of the arrested gang members, Amechi Okoro, revealed during interrogation that he had been released from the Ikoyi Correctional Centre just last Monday. Okoro’s confession led operatives to the gang’s hideout, where another suspect, Michael Oko, was apprehended.

Oko, who had initially escaped from the crime scene, admitted to being recruited by the gang’s ringleader, known as Awuha.

The Corps Commander noted that the arrested suspects were part of an armed gang that had been terrorizing the Odogbolu axis of the Lagos-Benin Expressway.

Several items were recovered from the suspects, including a motorcycle, 12 mobile phones, two locally made pistols, a sum of N113,050, a silver wristwatch, and a red headset.

The suspects’ backgrounds were also revealed, with Oko hailing from Anambra State and residing in Ago Iwoye, while Okoro is originally from Onitsha, Anambra State, but previously lived in Ikorodu, Lagos State.

The body of the deceased suspect has been evacuated by the police, and the two arrested suspects will be transferred to the police for further investigation and prosecution.
