An Ikeja Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday sentenced a 24-year-old man, Azeez Abdullahi, to 12 years imprisonment for breaking into a Church and attempting to steal.

Magistrate M. C. Ayinde, sentenced Abdullahi after he pleaded guilty to three counts of conspiracy, burglary and attempt to steal. He was arraigned on July 7.

Ayinde said that the convict should serve out his term without an option of fine at the Kirikiri Correction Centre.

She sentenced the convict to two years imprisonment for conspiracy, five years each for burglary and attempt to steal.

Ayinde held that the sentence should run concurrently with hard labour.

Earlier, the prosecution counsel, Insp Segun Oke told the court that the defendant committed the offences with two others at large on June 27 at Triumphant Christian Center, Oba Akran Avenue, Ikeja.

Oke said that the defendant scaled the church fence and broke into the generator house.

He also said that he was caught by the policemen guarding the church.

The prosecutor said that different sizes of spanners, screw drivers, pliers and battery cable connectors were recovered from the defendant.

He said that the offence contravened the provisions of sections 309, 406 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
