The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Rashidi Ladoja, has said that serving as a governor is easier than functioning as a traditional ruler.

Oba Ladoja, a former Governor of Oyo State, made the statement on Monday while receiving the Oniru of Iru Kingdom, Wasiu Lawal, at his residence in Bodija, Ibadan.

He explained that elected government officials operate with coercive powers, defined authority and structured funding, unlike traditional rulers who lack such institutional support.

The monarch added that the absence of clearly defined constitutional roles for traditional rulers makes their responsibilities more demanding, despite their closeness to the grassroots.

Oba Ladoja noted that expectations of the Olubadan stool are very high due to its wide jurisdiction, stressing that meeting the needs of the people requires innovative thinking.

He also recalled his years in Lagos Island, describing the experience as memorable.

Earlier, the Oniru praised the Olubadan and spoke on the unique challenges faced by former public office holders who later ascend traditional stools.

Those present at the meeting included the Ekarun Balogun of Ibadanland, Sharafadeen Alli; former Senate Leader and Agbaakin Olubadan, Teslim Folarin; as well as other chiefs and aides of the Lagos monarch.
